POSITION OVERVIEW
As part of Apollo, ISGI serves as the specialized investment office dedicated to large, strategic, and sophisticated insurance and pension clients. Our clients are investing over €15 billion into “Return Seeking” (RS) assets managed by ISGI, which includes a diverse array of evolving private debt and equity-like investments, all originated and underwritten by Apollo. Our strategy employs a relative value-oriented approach, focusing on consistent outperformance and capital preservation while adhering to local regulatory constraints for insurance and pension funds.
Investments encompass a wide spectrum of credit, real assets, and equity-like opportunities from various jurisdictions and markets worldwide. The ISGI RS team in Zurich spearheads this initiative, supporting insurance clients in portfolio management, investment selection, analytics, reporting, and educational resources, as well as guidance on Solvency II optimization. The team is responsible for constructing portfolios of private investments while assisting clients in navigating local regulations and boards. This Analyst role focuses on integrating into the team for the origination and management of private investments, fostering a commitment to enhancing our economic insights and client service through dedication, expertise, and a collaborative approach.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Focus on private investments that are originated across various markets and jurisdictions by Apollo and placed on regulated insurance and pension funds’ balance sheets.
- Prepare and present summaries for investors on new deals specifically originated by Apollo to aid their decision-making process.
- Defend investment decisions, coordinate necessary governance for efficient approvals, and prepare investment and reporting materials required to implement investments within the regulatory framework, including the Solvency II prudent person principle.
- Understand, prepare, and adjust investor reports and ad hoc responses for both internal (management information) and external (client regulatory reporting) purposes.
- Apply and develop analytics to track and project capital activity, returns, forecasting, capital consumption, drawdown risk, diversification, and other metrics to construct portfolios made up of private investments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of relevant experience in investment functions within:
- a large insurance company,
- an insurance asset management company,
- an investment bank within an insurance solutions or structuring group,
- a consulting firm specializing in insurance regulation or law, or
- an alternative asset management group.
- Previous experience with alternative investments/private investments is essential.
- Understanding of fixed income principles, capital markets, and private origination across asset-backed and corporate finance.
- Familiarity with Solvency II regulation, including Standard Formula calculations and assessments for private assets; experience in documenting investment decisions within these frameworks and an awareness of the Prudent Person Principle (PPP) requirements.
- A self-starter with a strong work ethic, consistently willing to go the extra mile.
- Ability to perform under high pressure, multitask, and respond quickly and decisively to deliver on requests.
- Solid proficiency in SQL, VBA, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for efficient data manipulation, portfolio reporting, and modeling, particularly for private investment portfolios.
- Excellent academic background in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Fluency in English, German, and one other European language is required.
