Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Research Scientist, you will play a crucial role in developing sensing solutions for ABB’s next-generation systems and products. We seek a team member with a commendable research track record and the enthusiasm to translate world-class academic research into an industrial setting. The work model for this role is hybrid.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and lead research projects in industrial sensing, addressing the needs of our businesses. Applications may include process automation, process industries, port automation, and maritime transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions, from concept definition through to experimental verification.
  • Evaluate new technologies, conduct technical surveys, and generate project proposals that have a significant business impact.
  • Disseminate your findings through scientific publications and internal technical reports, and generate intellectual property.
  • Engage with researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities for collaborative development.

Qualifications for the Role

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
  • Expertise in areas such as machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis is advantageous.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) with familiarity in the Linux ecosystem.
  • Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines for cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus.
  • A proven publication record in top-tier scientific conferences and journals.
  • A collaborative team player with a willingness to learn about new industrial applications and work across a broad range of technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
