Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Research Scientist at ABB, you will be an integral part of our team, contributing to cutting-edge sensing solutions for the next generation of systems and products. We are seeking a skilled professional with a proven research background who is eager to translate world-class academic research into practical applications within an industrial setting. Work Model

The work model for this role is hybrid.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and lead research projects focused on industrial sensing, addressing the needs of our business sectors, including process automation, process industries, port automation, and maritime transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions, from concept definition through to experimental verification.
  • Evaluate new technologies, conduct technical surveys, and generate project proposals that deliver business impact.
  • Disseminate your findings through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while also generating intellectual property.
  • Engage with researchers and engineers across various research centers, ABB business units, and universities to foster collaboration and innovation.

Qualifications for the Role

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
  • Expertise in machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem.
  • Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines for cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus.
  • Demonstrated publication record in top scientific conferences and journals.
  • A team player attitude with a willingness to learn new industrial applications and work across a broad range of technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
