Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Research Scientist at ABB, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge sensing solutions for our next generation systems and products. We seek a team member with a strong research background and a passion for translating world-class academic research into practical industrial applications. You will collaborate with a dynamic, international team of scientists within ABB Research, where we foster an open and innovative work environment full of opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The work model for this role is hybrid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to research projects focused on industrial sensing that address the needs of our businesses. Applications may involve process automation, process industries, port automation, and maritime transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from the concept definition phase to experimental verification.
  • Evaluate new technologies, conduct technical surveys, and generate project proposals with significant business impact.
  • Disseminate your findings through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while also generating intellectual property.
  • Work closely with researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas is advantageous: machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem.
  • Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines, such as cameras, LIDAR, or radar, is a plus.
  • Proven publication record at leading scientific conferences and journals.
  • A team player with a willingness to learn new industrial applications and work with diverse technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
