Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in developing sensing solutions for ABB’s next-generation systems and products. We are seeking a dedicated team member with a proven research background who is eager to translate world-class academic insights into practical industrial applications. The work model for this role is hybrid.
Key Responsibilities
You will be primarily accountable for:
- Leading and contributing to research projects in industrial sensing that address the needs of our businesses, including applications in process automation, process industries, port automation, and maritime transport.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from concept definition to experimental verification.
- Evaluating new technologies and conducting technical surveys, while generating project proposals with significant business impact.
- Disseminating your research findings through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while contributing to the generation of intellectual property.
- Working alongside researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities.
Qualifications for the Role
- A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines for cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus.
- A demonstrated publication record at top scientific conferences and journals.
- A collaborative team player with a willingness to learn about new industrial applications and work with a broad range of technologies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
