Summary
We are seeking innovative researchers to lead explorative investigations and generate new knowledge and potential products. You will design, organize, promote, and execute ideas and plans to enhance the role of chemistry in exploratory goals for product discovery.
Your main responsibilities will involve developing research proposals that establish a solid technical and economic foundation for the development and assessment of new or improved products, synthetic methods, and analytical and physical testing techniques. You will also provide recommendations based on the findings or changes in scope, as well as determine whether to discontinue projects.
About the Role
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and execute chemical syntheses of novel drug molecules (both LMW and bRo5) aided by in-silico tools and facilitated by state-of-the-art synthetic methodologies and technologies (automation, miniaturization). Initial focus will be on peptide-based vectors.
- Independently design and perform chemical syntheses of targeting vectors and conjugates, collaborating effectively within a dynamic team and following established project protocols.
- Experiment in a first-class laboratory infrastructure and evaluate novel synthetic technologies to progress projects.
- Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary project team, integrating experimental data to formulate scientific hypotheses and prioritize novel molecules for synthesis.
- Collect appropriate characterization data (MS, HPLC, UPLC/MS) of reaction products and document data accurately in electronic laboratory journals and databases.
- Discuss and communicate scientific results at project and group meetings.
- Assume responsibilities to maintain high levels of laboratory safety and infrastructure.
Minimum Requirements
What you will bring to the role:
- A degree from a University or Fachhochschule (BSc, MSc, or Diplom) with a strong focus on synthetic organic chemistry, or education as a Lab Technician/Chemielaborant (or equivalent apprenticeship) enhanced by significant further chemistry training.
- A strong passion for hands-on experimentation in the laboratory, with the ability to critically interpret results, formulate new experimental hypotheses, and make informed decisions.
- Prior knowledge of non-classical therapeutic modalities (e.g., peptides) is considered a plus.
- Profound knowledge of standard IT applications (e.g., E-Notebook, ChemDraw, MNOVA, software-controlled lab equipment).
- A mindset of curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and openness to diverse thinking, coupled with enthusiasm for personal development beyond current comfort zones, along with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A desire to collaborate with a dynamic team, discuss scientific concepts, and contribute to the next generation of drug molecules.
- An organized working style, attention to detail, flexibility, and a commitment to high quality.
