Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in developing sensing solutions for ABB’s next-generation systems and products. We seek a dedicated team member with a proven research track record and the enthusiasm to translate world-class academic research into a practical industrial setting. The work model for this role is hybrid.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Contributing to and leading research projects in industrial sensing that address the needs of our businesses, including applications in process automation, process industries, port automation, or maritime transport.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from the concept definition phase to experimental verification.
- Evaluating new technologies, conducting technical surveys, and generating impactful project proposals.
- Disseminating results through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while generating intellectual property.
- Partnering with researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities.
Qualifications for the Role
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
- Expertise in any of the following fields is advantageous: machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines for cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus.
- A proven publication track record in top scientific conferences and journals.
- A team player with a willingness to learn new industrial applications and work across a broad range of technologies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
