Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in developing sensing solutions for ABB’s next-generation systems and products. We are seeking a dedicated team member with a proven research track record and a passion for transitioning world-class academic research into an industrial setting. The work model for this role is hybrid.

Your Main Accountabilities

  • Contribute to and lead research projects in industrial sensing that address the needs of our businesses, with applications spanning process automation, process industries, port automation, or maritime transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from the concept definition phase to experimental verification.
  • Evaluate new technologies, conduct technical surveys, and generate project proposals with significant business impact.
  • Disseminate your results through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while generating intellectual property.
  • Work alongside researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities.

Qualifications for the Role

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
  • Expertise in any of the following fields is an advantage: machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem.
  • Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines for cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus.
  • A proven publication track record at prestigious scientific conferences and journals.
  • A team player attitude with a willingness to learn new industrial applications and engage with a broad range of technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
