Job Opportunity: Research Scientist - Drug Discovery Biology

The Drug Discovery Biology group within the Discovery Sciences department in Basel, Switzerland, is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team.

Our group supports early drug discovery projects across various disease indications. We are a collaborative global team exploring the interface of chemistry and biology for the discovery of small molecule therapeutics.

You will work in a laboratory setting, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies to develop biochemical and cellular assays and conduct compound screenings for hit identification and support hit-to-lead generation. This role presents opportunities to engage in diverse projects and acquire new skills.

Please note that there is no relocation support for this role.

About the Role

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizing a variety of technologies to develop and miniaturize biochemical and cellular assays.
  • Independently designing, executing, and analyzing experiments and screens for drug discovery projects.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to contribute both experimentally and intellectually to early drug discovery projects.
  • Preparing presentations and effectively communicating results in internal meetings.
  • Assisting in the development and validation of new methodologies and instrumentation as needed.
  • Ensuring the high quality of experimental data and maintaining rigorous documentation in the electronic Lab notebook.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of the lab and its equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Apprenticeship, bachelor's, or master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related disciplines.
  • Relevant laboratory experience in industry or academia.
  • Proficiency in various laboratory methods and technologies in biochemistry, molecular biology, or cell biology.
  • Scientific curiosity, initiative, and strong organizational skills.
  • Interest in participating in open and collaborative teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills in oral and written English.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with relevant assays, including cellular assays, competitive binding, and enzyme activity assays, along with readout technologies such as cell imaging, fluorescence, and luminescence.
  • Familiarity with assay miniaturization and screening.
  • Strong skills in handling large data sets and performing data analysis.
