Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Research Scientist at ABB, you will collaborate on innovative sensing solutions for our next-generation systems and products. We seek a dedicated team member with a strong research background and a passion for translating world-class academic research into practical industrial applications. The work model for this role is hybrid.
Main Responsibilities
You will be primarily accountable for:
- Leading and contributing to research projects focused on industrial sensing, addressing the diverse needs of our businesses, including applications in process automation, process industries, port automation, and maritime transport.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from conception to experimental verification.
- Evaluating new technologies, conducting technical surveys, and generating impactful project proposals.
- Disseminating research findings through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while contributing to the generation of intellectual property.
- Working in partnership with researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and academic institutions.
Qualifications for the Role
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong background in machine perception and computer vision.
- Expertise in areas such as machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing, or time series analysis is advantageous.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software pipelines, including cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus.
- Proven publication record at top-tier scientific conferences and journals.
- A collaborative mindset and a willingness to learn about new industrial applications spanning a broad range of technologies.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills in English.
