Job Title: Research Perfumer

As a Research Perfumer, you will find yourself at the intersection of creativity and science, playing a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of olfactory molecules that will define how the world smells in the future.

Your expertise will enhance our Fragrance Molecule Research activities, guiding creative discovery to develop new perfuming ingredients with both imagination and artistry. As the primary advocate for perfumery within our molecule research teams, you will inspire innovation with the essence of creativity.

This role can be based in our Innovation Center in Kemptthal (Switzerland) or in Argenteuil (France), reporting directly to the Head of Ingredients Research.

Responsibilities

In this dynamic position, you will:

  • Act as a creative liaison between perfumers and scientists, integrating artistic insights throughout all stages of new molecule development.
  • Serve as the voice of perfumery within the molecule research organization.
  • Select and evaluate new odorant molecules in collaboration with global perfumers, balancing creativity with sensory, safety, sustainability, and product considerations.
  • Foster partnerships that connect perfumery artistry with scientific expertise.
  • Champion the use of Givaudan proprietary materials and specialties to enrich fragrance creation.
  • Collaborate globally with perfumers in both Fine Fragrances and Consumer Products to contribute to the palette of the future from a research perspective.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of successful test themes, optimizing for market and regulatory needs.
  • Stay informed about emerging olfactory trends, market developments, and consumer preferences to inspire innovative creative directions.

Professional Profile

Your qualifications include:

  • A university degree in science or chemistry is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience as a creative Perfumer, demonstrating mastery of the perfumery craft and portfolio development.
  • Experience with fragrance ingredients, formulation, and application across multiple categories.
  • Expertise in collaboration and communication across the organization and geographies.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; proficiency in additional languages (French, German) is an asset.
  • Technical proficiency with standard digital tools and fragrance creation systems.
  • Market knowledge in the F&F industry, showing a solid understanding of general market dynamics across multiple regions.
