Position Overview

This position reports to the R&D Team Lead.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the strategic technology direction by contributing your own ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative technologies, software, and solutions. You will work alongside the Switching research team, executing your assigned tasks and utilizing your technical knowledge in a structured manner.

As part of your responsibilities, you will:

  • Run and maintain state-of-the-art electrical test labs for high voltage and high currents.
  • Define, design, and implement new testing concepts while supporting applied research in the area of switchgear, contributing to the planning, setup, and execution of experiments.
  • Develop new technologies for sustainable protection solutions in upcoming applications of switchgear, such as grid integration of renewable energies, energy storage integration, or microgrids.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers from ABB's research centers, global divisions, and universities.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Experience in practical laboratory work and prototyping, including experimental setup, advanced measurement techniques, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience in lab-integrated programming (LabView, Python, Matlab) is highly advantageous.
  • A background in high-power testing is beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge of designing and fabricating printed circuit boards is a plus but not mandatory.
  • A collaborative, solution-focused approach, with strong written and spoken communication skills, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a bachelor's with significant lab experience.
  • Fluency in English (minimum C1 level) is required.
