Reporting Structure

This position reports to the R&D Team Lead.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the strategic technology direction by contributing innovative ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing cutting-edge technology, software, and solutions. Daily, you will collaborate with the Switching research team by executing assigned tasks and utilizing your technical knowledge in a structured manner. This position allows you to demonstrate your expertise by staying updated on the latest advancements and actively applying this knowledge to enhance lab infrastructure, software tools, and testing methodologies.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain cutting-edge electrical test labs for high voltage and high current applications.
  • Define, design, and implement new testing concepts while supporting applied research in switchgear technology, including the planning, setup, and execution of experiments.
  • Develop innovative technologies for sustainable protection solutions in emerging switchgear applications, such as grid integration of renewable energies, energy storage solutions, and microgrids.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers from ABB's research centers, global divisions, and universities.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Practical experience in laboratory work and prototyping, including experimental setup, advanced measurement techniques, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in lab-integrated programming (LabView, Python, Matlab) is highly advantageous.
  • A background in high-power testing is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Experience in designing and fabricating printed circuit boards is a plus.
  • A collaborative, solution-focused approach, along with strong written and spoken communication skills, and the ability to build relationships.
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree with significant lab experience.
  • Fluency in English (minimum C1) is required.
