Your Role and Responsibilities

In this position, you will have the opportunity to support our strategic technology direction by contributing innovative ideas to identify, propose, and implement cutting-edge technology, software, and solutions. You will collaborate daily with the Switching research team, executing your tasks while applying your technical knowledge in a structured manner. This role gives you the chance to showcase your expertise by remaining up-to-date with the latest advancements and actively applying this knowledge to enhance lab infrastructure, software tools, and testing methods.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain state-of-the-art electrical test laboratories for high voltage and high current applications.
  • Define, design, and implement new testing concepts while supporting applied research in switchgear, contributing to planning, setup, and execution of experiments.
  • Develop new technologies for sustainable protection solutions in upcoming switchgear applications, such as grid integration of renewable energies, energy storage integration, or microgrids.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers from ABB's research centers, global ABB divisions, and universities.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Experience in practical laboratory work and prototyping, including experimental setup, advanced measurement techniques, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience in lab-integrated programming (LabView, Python, Matlab) is highly advantageous.
  • A background in high-power testing is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of designing and fabricating printed circuit boards is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A collaborative, solution-focused approach, with strong written and spoken communication skills, as well as relationship-building skills.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a bachelor's degree with significant lab experience.
  • Fluency in English (minimum C1) is required.
