Your Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence our strategic technology direction by contributing innovative ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing cutting-edge technology, software, and solutions. Each day, you will collaborate with the Switching research team by executing your assigned tasks and applying your technical expertise in a structured manner. You will have the chance to showcase your knowledge by staying updated on the latest advancements and actively applying this expertise to enhance our lab infrastructure, software tools, and testing methods.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Running and maintaining state-of-the-art electrical test labs for high voltage and high currents.
  • Defining, designing, and implementing new testing concepts and supporting applied research in switchgear while contributing to the planning, setup, and execution of experiments.
  • Developing new technologies for sustainable protection solutions in emerging switchgear applications, such as grid integration of renewable energies, integration of energy storage, and microgrids.
  • Collaborating closely with scientists and engineers from ABB’s research centers, global ABB divisions, and universities.

Qualifications for the Role:

  • Experience in practical laboratory work and prototyping, including experimental setup, advanced measurement techniques, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience in lab-integrated programming (LabView, Python, Matlab) is highly advantageous.
  • A background in high-power testing is beneficial, but not required.
  • Knowledge of designing and fabricating printed circuit boards is beneficial, but not required.
  • A collaborative, solution-focused approach, with strong written and spoken communication skills, as well as relationship-building abilities.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a bachelor's degree with significant lab experience.
  • Fluency in English (minimum C1) is required.
