We are seeking a Research Engineer to contribute to both ongoing and future research projects at the intersection of machine learning and structural design—specifically focusing on systems such as trusses and space frames.

Position Overview

This role centers on the data-driven generation of structural systems. You will engage in the development, experimentation, and evaluation of machine learning models that assist in navigating expansive design spaces. This position is particularly suited for individuals who thrive in research-driven development, enjoy prototyping innovative ideas, and value interdisciplinary collaboration.

Contract Details

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding. The starting date is projected for March/April 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creation of conceptual structural systems (e.g., trusses, space frames)
  • Application of unsupervised machine learning and deep learning methods
  • Analysis, visualization, and interpretation of learned design spaces
  • Contribution to research outputs such as prototypes, publications, and open-source code

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in a STEM field
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Practical experience with PyTorch
  • Solid understanding of unsupervised machine learning and deep learning
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Graph Neural Networks (GNN)
  • Familiarity with PyTorch Geometric (PyG)
  • Experience with or interest in Reinforcement Learning
  • Background or strong interest in optimization
