Project Background

We are seeking a Research Engineer to contribute to ongoing and future research projects at the intersection of machine learning and structural design, such as trusses and space frames. This role focuses on the data-driven generation of structural systems, allowing you to develop, experiment with, and evaluate machine learning models that assist in navigating large design spaces. It is ideal for someone who enjoys research-driven development, prototyping innovative ideas, and engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations.

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. The starting date is March/April 2026.

Job Description

  • Conceptualize structural systems (e.g., trusses, space frames)
  • Implement unsupervised machine learning and deep learning methods
  • Analyze, visualize, and interpret learned design spaces
  • Contribute to research outputs such as prototypes, publications, and open-source code

Profile

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in a STEM field
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Practical experience with PyTorch
  • Solid understanding of unsupervised machine learning and deep learning
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Graph Neural Networks (GNN)
  • Familiarity with PyTorch Geometric (PyG)
  • Experience with or interest in Reinforcement Learning
  • Background or strong interest in optimization
