Research / Student Assistant for the Swiss Mobility Panel

10%-30%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Swiss Mobility Panel team, a collaborative initiative from the IPEEP, SPUR, and IVT-TMP research groups, is seeking a Research Assistant to support its ongoing longitudinal survey data collection projects. This project investigates public opinion dynamics in Switzerland concerning environmental policies, planning preferences, mobility behaviors, and their interconnections with other policy areas. Our team employs a unique methodology that combines survey data with geocoded information and survey experiments to address these questions.

Job Description

Types of Tasks

  • Program surveys in Qualtrics
  • Create documentation such as questionnaires, codebooks, and technical reports
  • Assist teams with data analysis and reporting to third-party stakeholders, including SBB and AMAG
  • Maintain our custom-made R package and provide support to the research teams
  • Support panel management tasks, such as data cleaning and storage

Profile

Required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German
  • Programming skills in R
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at a Swiss university

Desirable

  • Strong command of R Markdown and LaTeX
  • Previous experience with Qualtrics
  • Willingness and motivation to further develop skills in R and Qualtrics, including programming and spatial data analysis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in French and/or Italian
  • Interest in public opinion research, environmental politics, and mobility/travel behavior

Workplace

You will primarily work with the panel survey team, including other research assistants. The work schedule and location are flexible (Hönggerberg-HIL or Zentrum-IFW), with the exception of regular team meetings.

The starting date for this position is the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester (approximately September 15 / October 1, 2026). This is a fixed-term position, with a 1-year contract subject to possible extension. Candidates must maintain enrollment at a Swiss University to remain eligible.
