Research / Student Assistant in the International Political Economy and Environmental Politics Group

10%-20%, Zurich, fixed-term

The International Political Economy and Environmental Politics group is seeking a Research Assistant to support an ongoing longitudinal survey data collection project, the Swiss Mobility Panel. This project explores public opinion dynamics in Switzerland concerning environmental and mobility preferences, changes therein, and linkages to preferences and behaviors in other policy areas. To address these questions, the team employs an original approach combining survey and geocoded data with survey experiments.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include:

  • Programming surveys in Qualtrics.
  • Creating documentation such as questionnaires, codebooks, and technical reports.
  • Supporting the team with data analysis and reporting to third-party stakeholders such as SBB or AMAG.
  • Maintaining our custom-made R package and providing support to research teams.
  • Assisting with panel management tasks, including data cleaning and storage.

Profile

Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German.
  • Programming skills in R.
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor or Master program at a Swiss university.

Desirable Skills:

  • A strong command of R Markdown and LaTeX.
  • Previous experience with Qualtrics.
  • A willingness and motivation to further develop skills in R and Qualtrics, including programming and analysis of spatial data.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in French and/or Italian.
  • An interest in public opinion research and environmental politics.

Workplace

Assisting with the panel survey offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of survey methodology and environmental politics. You will primarily collaborate with members of the panel survey, including other research assistants. Work hours are flexible, except for regular team meetings. The salary will be in accordance with ETH rules (30.00 CHF/hour).
