The Public Policy Group / Immigration Policy Lab at ETH Zurich invites applications for a research assistant position.
This position supports our research agenda aimed at developing safe and effective measures to curb harmful online content and strengthen public discourse. We are employing state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and natural language processing to detect hate speech algorithmically across various online platforms, including newspapers and social media. To achieve this, we require an up-to-date, high-quality corpus of training data.
Your primary responsibility will be to annotate comments collected from online forums of Swiss newspapers based on whether they contain hate speech. Each week, you will receive a new set of comments to annotate flexibly within that week using a user-friendly interface, which is accessible on mobile devices as well. Remote work is possible.
The ideal candidate is currently studying at a Swiss university, is independent and reliable, and possesses a structured and precise working style. You should be a native (Swiss-) German speaker with a strong command of both English and German.
Your workplace will be at ETH Zurich, where you will be integrated into a dedicated research team.
This position is secured for 3 months, starting in September 2025, with remuneration in accordance with ETH guidelines.
