Research Assistant in Development Economics

80%-100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Development Economics Group (DEC) at ETH Zurich is committed to conducting empirical economics research that informs effective policies aimed at reducing global poverty and inequalities. Our objective is to develop social innovations that can help alleviate these pressing issues through empirical and experimental economic research.

We are currently offering a research assistant position in Development Economics. The starting date is September 1, 2026, for a duration of 6 months. Compensation will be provided on a monthly basis.

Job Description

  • You will work on cleaning data sets and performing or reproducing statistical analyses in preparation for academic publications.
  • Your responsibilities will include visualizing results, conducting literature reviews, and performing data searches.
  • You will also assist with organizational tasks related to the operation of our research group.

Profile

  • A Master’s degree in economics, statistics, or development studies.
  • A strong background in quantitative methods and a passion for coding.
  • A keen interest in global poverty and inequality issues.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R and/or STATA.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of InDesign is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with French or German is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working with an international organization focused on global development is an asset, but not required.

Our team consists of an international group of highly motivated economists and data scientists who are dedicated to analyzing global inequalities and contributing to solutions for global development. We work closely with NADEL, a multidisciplinary team training future decision-makers for global cooperation and development, as well as ETH4D, which connects researchers with civil society, NGOs, governments, and industry to develop scalable innovations for the global community.
