The Development Economics Group (DEC) at ETH Zurich is dedicated to empirical economics research aimed at informing more effective policies to reduce global poverty and inequality. Our mission is to develop social innovations that address these critical issues through rigorous empirical and experimental economic research.

Position Overview

The Development Economics Group (ETH-DEC) is seeking a Research Assistant in Development Economics. The position is set to commence on October 1st and will last for six months. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain research experience between a Master’s program and a PhD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and manage data sets.
  • Conduct and reproduce statistical analysis in preparation for academic publications.
  • Visualize results and perform literature reviews.
  • Conduct data searches and support organizational tasks related to the research group.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, or Development Studies.
  • Strong background in quantitative methods with a passion for coding.
  • Interest in issues related to global poverty and inequality.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R and/or STATA.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of InDesign, French, or German is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with international organizations focused on global development is an advantage but not mandatory.

Our research group collaborates closely with NADEL, a multidisciplinary team training future decision-makers in global cooperation and development, linking researchers with civil society, NGOs, governments, and industry to develop and scale innovations for the global population.
