The Development Economics Group (DEC) at ETH Zurich is committed to empirical economics research that drives more effective policies aimed at reducing global poverty and inequalities. Our mission is to develop innovative social solutions that address these pressing issues through rigorous research and experimentation.

Position Overview

We are currently offering a research assistant position in Development Economics, with a starting date of October 1st for a duration of 6 months. This opportunity is perfect for individuals seeking research experience between completing their Master’s degree and beginning a PhD program.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning data sets and conducting or reproducing statistical analyses in preparation for academic publications.
  • Visualizing results, performing literature reviews, and conducting data searches.
  • Assisting with organizational tasks related to the operation of our research group.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in economics, statistics, or development studies.
  • A strong background in quantitative methods with a passion for coding.
  • Interest in topics related to global poverty and inequality.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R and/or STATA.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of InDesign, while advantageous, is not required.
  • Additional language skills in French or German are a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience working with an international organization focused on global development is preferable but not essential.

Our research group collaborates closely with NADEL, a multidisciplinary team focused on educating future leaders in global cooperation and development, connecting researchers with NGOs, governments, civil society, and the industry to foster and enhance innovations for the broader global community.
