Pala is seeking a Research Analyst for Base Metals to bolster our research team and support Frontier Commodities, a dynamic commodities investment strategy backed by Pala. This pivotal role is central to our growth strategy, providing a unique opportunity to collaborate with the strategy’s Portfolio Managers, engage with seasoned fundamental analysts, and partner with our senior data scientist. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in generating actionable insights that drive investment decisions and shape the future direction of Frontier.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct fundamental research on base metals markets, analyzing mining production, smelting/refining capacity, inventory levels, cost curves, and end-use demand trends.
• Develop and maintain supply/demand models, price forecasts, and scenario analyses for key base metals.
• Monitor and interpret macroeconomic, geopolitical, and industrial trends affecting base metals, collaborating with the research team to develop the macro outlook.
• Generate trade ideas by recommending medium and longer-term strategies (0-3 months and 3-6 months) in coordination with trading teams.
• Prepare and present regular research reports, dashboards, and briefings.
• Support fund marketing initiatives by preparing investment materials and letters, meeting with key investors, and participating in industry events.
• Serve as a role model of accountability and teamwork for junior team members.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• A minimum of five years of experience in base metals research, commodities analysis, or related fields (e.g., hedge funds, trading houses, consultancies, mining companies).
• A deep understanding of copper, nickel, zinc, lead, and tin fundamentals, along with insights into supply chain dynamics, logistics, and regional nuances.
• Proficiency in building supply/demand models, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel that include forecasting and data analysis functions.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex data into clear, actionable insights.
• Strong prioritization skills in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• A thorough understanding of research techniques.
• The ability to document and present results clearly and coherently, both in written and verbal formats.
• A team-oriented approach, embodying Pala’s culture of teamwork, deep trust, and accountability.
• A high sense of quality and urgency.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in business English.
• Preference will be given to EU or Swiss citizens due to regulatory and operational considerations.
