Role Description
The Purchasing Manager will collaborate with the Senior Purchasing Manager in sourcing all non-food items (galley equipment, paper products, chemicals, table- and stemware, uniforms, etc.) globally for Viking’s fleet of River, Ocean, and Expedition ships.
Main responsibilities include preparing tenders and RFx documents, calculating and forecasting spend and savings across categories, and maintaining and updating standard items and prices in Viking’s purchasing system, alongside ad-hoc analytics.
In addition, the Purchasing Manager will manage logistics and inventory controls.
This position is part of Viking’s Purchasing team, working closely with the Onboard Operations Team across all divisions (Galley, Housekeeping, Restaurant/Bar, Front/Back Office, and Entertainment) to ensure optimal sourcing and contracting of products necessary for onboard hotel operations.
The Purchasing Manager – Non-food will report directly to the Senior Purchasing Manager – Non-food and will be based in Basel, Switzerland.
Key Responsibilities
Calculate and forecast spend and savings by category.
Maintain and update standard items and specifications in our system.
Prepare tender and RFx documents.
Support and participate in negotiations.
Assist the Senior Purchasing Manager in identifying potential suppliers globally and adapting to evolving requirements, particularly in the Ocean and Expedition sectors.
Help resolve issues with suppliers (service level issues, quality discrepancies, out of stock, invoices, etc.).
Support the Ocean and Expedition Logistics Team in various aspects of delivery planning to the vessels.
Participate in industry events and exhibitions.
Maintain the Viking Purchasing System, including items, prices, and logistics.
Update prices in our system periodically.
Conduct ad-hoc analytics related to purchasing and supply chain management.
Assist the Senior Purchasing Manager in preparing status updates for the Senior Management team.
Key Qualifications
You are business fluent in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
You have gained initial work experience through student jobs or internships.
You aspire to build a career in Supply Chain Management.

Education
You have recently graduated from university (Bachelor's or Master's degree) or have a degree from a hospitality school.
