About the FGCZ Proteomics Unit

The FGCZ Proteomics Unit is dedicated to supporting both internal and external research groups through a comprehensive array of services, training, and access to advanced instruments. Our analytical portfolio includes:

  • Identifying, characterizing, and quantifying proteins in various biological samples, including body fluids, tissues, and cells.
  • Collaborative efforts with the Bioinformatics team to ensure successful project execution from consultation to data analysis.

Our team is further enhanced by the support of IT and bioinformatics experts and collaboration with the Metabolomics and Genomics Units of FGCZ to facilitate multi-omics approaches.

Your Role

You will become an integral part of our international team of specialists within the FGCZ proteomics core facility. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the team during sample preparation and data acquisition for diverse mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflows, with a focus on the identification, characterization, and quantification of peptides and proteins using LC-MS.
  • Conducting routine sample preparation methods, such as in-gel, on-beads, and in-solution digestion, as well as peptide desalting.
  • Evaluating and interpreting quality control features during and after data acquisition and participating in basic data analysis workflows.
  • Maintaining various LC-MS instrument platforms and assisting with practical organization within the proteomics laboratories.

This position is initially offered as a two-year contract.

Your Profile

  • Completed professional training as a chemistry or biology laboratory technician, or a bachelor's degree in analytical chemistry, biology, or a closely related field.
  • Wet lab experience in biochemistry and/or analytical chemistry.
  • Hands-on experience with LC-MS and/or other protein analysis techniques is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to adapt to various analytical protocols in a dynamic environment, with attention to detail and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English are essential; knowledge of German is a plus.
  • A team player who is ambitious and motivated to learn and make impactful contributions through proteomics and protein analysis.
