About the Company
ANAVIA specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) systems with a payload capacity of up to 500 kilograms. We provide industry-leading unmanned helicopter systems tailored for various mission profiles, including Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Inspection, Mapping, and Cargo.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, along with three years of industry experience. A Doctoral degree is considered equivalent to industry experience.
- Experience: Over eight years in systems engineering development, with five years focused on propulsion system design, integration, and testing—preferably with gas or heavy fuel engines. Experience with heavy fuel engines in maritime operations and prior technical leadership in UAV/aerospace projects is a plus.
- Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of power and propulsion systems and their components, including fuel systems, propulsion-airframe integration, and ground equipment.
- Proven experience in managing vendor partnerships and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong project management capabilities (Agile, SCRUM, or similar methodologies).
- Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-461, or other aerospace environmental testing standards.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities and technical comprehension.
- Language: Proficient in English (oral and written); knowledge of German is desirable.
- Passport: Open to Swiss/EU Nationals only.
Key Tasks
- Propulsion System Leadership: Serve as the technical authority for propulsion systems. Define system requirements and oversee engine integration and verification methods. Collaborate with vendors to address performance issues and enhance designs.
- Cross-Functional Integration: Coordinate with aerodynamics, structural, and avionics teams to optimize engine integration, cooling, and vibration reduction. Ensure that propulsion systems meet helicopter mission profiles such as endurance, payload capacity, altitude, and environmental factors.
- Testing & Validation: Lead ground and flight testing campaigns to validate engine performance under operational conditions. Develop testing strategies and plans, and analyze data to refine system parameters.
- Vendor & Customer Management: Act as the primary technical liaison between internal teams and propulsion system vendors. Review vendor designs, conduct risk assessments, and ensure deliverables align with project timelines. Collaborate with customers to clarify requirements.
- Lifecycle Support: Create maintenance protocols and failure-mode analyses for propulsion systems. Assist field operations teams in troubleshooting engine-related issues, and maintain strategic alignment in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.
- Documentation and Compliance: Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, tests, and maintenance manuals. Ensure that mechanical designs meet relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and corporate policies.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with advancements in mechanical engineering and UAV technology, applying best practices to analysis processes.
Competencies & Duties
- Work independently and responsibly while executing the tasks outlined above.
- Adhere to ANAVIA's employment contract and comply with company safety instructions and employee safety requirements, as well as fulfilling responsibilities outlined in the quality manual and associated work instructions.
