Projects Operations Manager (Energy & Water)

W Talent is proud to partner with a leading engineering services provider to recruit an experienced Projects Operations Manager. This role will support the continued growth of their Energy & Water division located in Derby.

This position would suit an experienced Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager, or Projects Manager with experience in delivering Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) projects within the Energy, Water, Utilities, Infrastructure, or Industrial Engineering sectors.

The Role - Projects Operations Manager

Reporting directly to the Project Director, you will take full operational responsibility for the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects across the Energy & Water sector. Leading a team of Contract Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and Site Teams, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leading the operational delivery of multiple engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Managing project performance, profitability, and commercial delivery across your portfolio.
• Providing leadership, mentoring, and support to Project Managers, Engineers, and operational teams.
• Ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with customer expectations.
• Managing programmes, resources, and budgets to achieve project milestones.
• Building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders.
• Driving continuous improvement across project delivery, operational processes, and business performance.
• Supporting tender reviews, commercial decisions, and strategic business growth.
• Leading Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental compliance across all operations.
• Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you ideally have:

• Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager, or similar leadership role.
• A strong engineering background within Energy, Water, Utilities, Infrastructure, M&E, or Industrial Engineering.
• Experience managing multiple engineering projects and operational delivery teams.
• Strong commercial awareness with responsibility for budgets, profitability, and programme delivery.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
• Knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts would be advantageous.
• A proactive approach to problem solving, customer relationships, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
