The World Food System Center (WFSC) at ETH Zurich is a Competence Center dedicated to advancing food system research and education. By uniting expertise from various disciplines, we address pressing challenges related to food and nutrition security, environmental sustainability, and social well-being. Our Center not only supports research across the entire food system but also fosters collaboration between academia, industry, and policy to create impactful solutions on both local and global scales. Project Background

Are you passionate about supporting the World Food System Center in advancing research, education, and dialogue on sustainable food systems? We have an exciting open position that encompasses the management and development of research activities and programs, educational facilitation, as well as communication and representation.

Job Description

We are seeking a Project Manager with strong facilitation and organizational skills, along with proven experience and a keen interest in food system research. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Management and coordination of existing and future research programs and activities (including the Future Food Initiative, Smart Sustainable Farming Program, Thematic Spotlights, etc.).
• Co-development of new inter- and transdisciplinary research programs based on existing or emerging funding opportunities and in collaboration with external partners.
• Co-development and co-organization of our two-week Summer School and other educational formats (e.g., educational games on cocoa value chains, short courses, etc.) and outreach events with educational components.
• Development and facilitation of various exchange formats (workshops and events, educational formats, Peer to Peer learning, etc.) aimed at supporting dialogue at the Science-Practice, Science-Policy Interface.
• Creation of content for communication activities regarding WFSC's research and education initiatives in collaboration with the Communication Manager.
• Representation of the Center in discussions to enhance project-based food system education at ETH and beyond.

Profile

• Applicants should possess a MSc or PhD in agricultural or food sciences (or related fields closely linked to food system sciences) and have experience in food system activities.
• Experience in project management and education, along with strong communication and facilitation skills, is essential.
• Fluency in English and German is required.
• The role is part of a small team and a broad Center network, making social competence—such as flexibility, resilience, adaptability, cultural awareness, and teamwork—essential.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are vital for effective education and dialogue facilitation, while inclusivity and well-being are core values of our team culture.
• This role demands digital literacy, strong planning, project management, analytical thinking, communication, and negotiation skills.
