Principal Senior Geophysicist / Principal Senior Geophysicistess

Ad Terra Consultancy SA - June 11, 2025

Join Our Team at Ad Terra

Ad Terra is a Swiss-based geoscience and engineering consulting firm, as well as a renewable energy operator, striving to unlock Earth’s boundless energy potential responsibly.

Position Summary

We are actively seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and skilled Senior Geophysicist with expertise in structural interpretation and exposure to quantitative interpretation (QI). In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the success of our energy consulting projects while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure our clients receive outstanding support. You will be responsible for technical work within petroleum and geothermal energy projects, as well as supporting critical raw material prospection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural seismic interpretation and mapping with a focus on geological and engineering objectives.
  • Integrate information from various imaging approaches.
  • Apply seismostratigraphic principles or seismic texture recognition to support lithological and stratigraphic predictions.
  • Supervise quantitative interpretation, including post-stack and pre-stack inversion for rock properties and seismic well ties.
  • Integrate principles of AVO/AVA/AVAZ/VVAZ into the interpretation and resultant geological models.
  • Perform seismic processing QC/QA with respect to geological and technical targets and concepts.
  • Execute time to depth conversion and apply velocity models as determined from VSP, sonic integration, and geological data to contribute to PreSDM velocity model building.
  • Manage data, including loading of seismic data, well information, and logs.
  • Compile regular progress reports and project status updates.
  • Prepare high-quality maps and reports.
  • Support planning of exploration targets and drilling activities.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Geophysics, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the energy sector.
  • A passionate and proactive approach to geology and geophysics, with strong teamwork skills.
  • Strong practical knowledge of specific software, including Kingdom Suite (S&P) and AspenTech (former Paradigm, former Emerson).
  • In-depth knowledge of geological concepts, lithology, and rock properties in relation to structural deformation or reservoir/seal pairs, with the ability to challenge geological well correlations.
  • Proficient in seismostratigraphic principles and seismic texture recognition for facies and lithology prediction.
  • Familiar with Quantitative Interpretation technologies and rock physics, including rock property inversion.
  • Knowledgeable of seismic imaging principles, such as azimuthal and offset substacks for target-specific interpretation.
  • Extensive experience in seismic interpretation of carbonates and strong knowledge in carbonate geology.
  • Skilled in the integration of AVO/AVA/AVAZ/VVAZ workflows.
  • Familiar with seismic well tie workflows, including time-depth-time and depth-to-depth conversions of seismic data and interpretations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in French and/or German is a plus.
