Principal Senior Geophysicist / Principal Senior Geophysicistess

Ad Terra Consultancy SA - June 6, 2025

About Ad Terra

Ad Terra is a Swiss-based geoscience and engineering consulting firm, as well as a renewable energy operator, committed to responsibly unlocking Earth’s boundless energy potential.

Position Summary

We are actively seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and skilled Senior Geophysicist with expertise in structural interpretation and a background in quantitative interpretation (QI). In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the success of our energy consulting projects, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure our clients receive exceptional support. Your responsibilities will encompass technical work across petroleum and geothermal energy projects, as well as contributing to critical raw material prospection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural seismic interpretation and mapping with a focus on geological and engineering objectives.
  • Integrate information from various imaging approaches.
  • Apply seismostratigraphic principles and seismic texture recognition to support lithological and stratigraphic predictions.
  • Supervise quantitative interpretation, including post-stack and pre-stack inversion for rock properties and seismic well ties.
  • Incorporate principles of AVO, AVA, AVAZ, and VVAZ into geological models.
  • Perform seismic processing quality control and assurance aligned with geological and technical targets.
  • Execute time-to-depth conversions and apply velocity models determined from VSP, sonic integration, and geological data, contributing to PreSDM velocity model building.
  • Manage data, including loading of seismic data, well information, and logs.
  • Compile regular progress reports and project status updates.
  • Prepare high-quality maps and reports.
  • Support planning for exploration targets and drilling operations.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Geophysics, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the energy sector.
  • A passionate and proactive approach to geology and geophysics, demonstrating strong teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in specific software, including:
    • Kingdom suite (S&P)
    • AspenTech (formerly Paradigm, formerly Emerson)
  • Strong understanding of geological concepts, lithology, and rock properties in relation to structural deformation and reservoir/seal pairs, capable of challenging geological well correlations.
  • Deep knowledge of seismostratigraphic principles and seismic texture recognition for facies and lithology prediction.
  • Familiarity with Quantitative Interpretation technologies and rock physics, as well as rock property inversion.
  • Experience with seismic imaging principles, including azimuthal and offset substacks for target-specific interpretation.
  • Extensive experience in seismic interpretation of carbonate geology.
  • Experience with AVO, AVA, AVAZ, and VVAZ workflow integrations.
  • Familiarity with seismic well tie workflows, time-depth and depth-to-depth conversions of seismic data and interpretations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Fluency (both written and spoken) in English; proficiency in French and/or German is a plus.
