Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate scientist and leader, specialized in RNAi therapeutics, to join the xRNA group within the Biologics Research Center (BRC) in Basel, Switzerland as Principal Scientist, xRNA. The xRNA team is dedicated to excellence and innovation in the development of a diverse portfolio of siRNA assets, focusing on modulating gene expression through RNAi. Our collaborative efforts with Disease Area groups, Global Discovery Chemistry, and Discovery Sciences aim to broaden the applications of RNAi beyond the liver.

About the Role

As Principal Scientist in xRNA Therapeutics, you will be at the forefront of innovative medicine development, dedicated to improving patient lives. The Biologics Research Center (BRC) develops a robust biologics pipeline in collaboration with Biomedical Research Disease Areas, leveraging a wide range of technologies in the discovery of antibody, protein, gene therapy, and RNA-based therapeutics. The successful candidate will possess a strong research background in drug discovery, providing critical expertise in next-generation RNA-based medicines. You will lead with confidence and collaborate effectively across therapeutic areas to advance our RNA portfolio across various diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a talented team of scientists at the Basel site, driving RNAi-based therapies to patients through design, screening, and characterization.
  • Establish mid- to long-term goals and implementation plans for the local xRNA team in alignment with the global strategy for xRNA and the Biologics Research Center.
  • Develop and implement strategies for next-generation extrahepatic RNAi for various disease areas, including renal, cardiometabolic, and cardiovascular.
  • Co-lead RNAi drug discovery and development in partnership with Global Discovery Chemistry and Disease Areas.
  • Collaborate with downstream development colleagues to advance lead candidates to full development.
  • Coordinate activities with other global BRC and functional groups.
  • Provide innovative solutions to scientific challenges and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Identify unmet needs in Disease Areas and collaborate towards novel therapeutic solutions.

Role Requirements

  • PhD-level scientist with at least 5 years of relevant experience, recognized as an expert in RNAi.
  • Prior experience in drug discovery focused on RNAi design, screening, and characterization.
  • In-depth knowledge of RNAi chemistry and biology, particularly in the optimization of therapeutic candidates.
  • A proven track record of success, evidenced by publications and patents.
  • Familiarity with the application of RNAi to renal metabolic diseases is desirable.
  • A highly collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, creativity, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with extrahepatic/kidney targeting of RNAi is preferred.
