Independent Forgings and Alloys Ltd (IFA) is uniquely positioned as the only single-site forge in the world offering open-die radial, press, hammer & ring rolling, as well as closed-die extrusion, drop stamping, and blade forging. Our extensive forging capabilities allow us to provide a fully integrated metals service center, encompassing everything from ingots/billets and forging to fully tested and released machined products.

Job Vacancy

As a Forge Operative, you will be pivotal in manufacturing forged products within our Sheffield manufacturing site, specifically in the Press Forge department. You will support the operation of a 1500T hydraulic press forge, ensuring that products are produced according to customer specifications, production schedules, quality standards, and the company’s health, safety, and environmental protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and support the 1500T hydraulic press forge to manufacture products to specified dimensions, tolerances, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with manipulators, furnaces, and ancillary equipment to ensure efficient forging operations.
  • Maintain material identity and full traceability throughout the production process.
  • Minimize waste, rework, and scrap through effective process control.
  • Assist with tooling changes, press set-up, and equipment preparation.
  • Support efficient workflow and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure production activities are completed in line with required production schedules and quality standards.
  • Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Promptly report hazards, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organization.
  • Participate in safety briefings, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience within a forging, heavy engineering, or manufacturing environment is advantageous.
  • Experience working with heavy industrial machinery or press equipment is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to adhere to production processes, customer specifications, and quality standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly regarding product quality and material traceability.
  • Reliable with proven capability to work effectively as part of a production team.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to support continuous improvement and uphold high housekeeping standards.

Salary Information

This Forge Operative position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from £17.50 to £21.54, based on a 35-hour working week, and is located in Sheffield. The role operates on an alternating weekly morning and afternoon shift pattern, providing an opportunity to work within an established and highly respected forging business.
