Postdoctoral Researcher in Shared Mobility

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our Transportation and Mobility Planning team at the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems. In this externally funded project, we will analyze ride-sharing, shared e-scooter, and shared bicycle behavior. Our goal is to understand the impacts of changes in supply and urban dynamics on ridership patterns—frequency, duration, and location. We will examine different user segments, such as tourists and residents, comparing their ridership behavior. This will involve analyzing existing GPS data as well as collecting our own through questionnaires.

  • Authorship and successful publication of research papers in high-impact journals

  • Support the acquisition of new research projects

Profile

Requirements:

  • Experience in analyzing GPS tracks
  • Strong data-handling skills with proficiency in R (compulsory) and ideally Python and/or GIS
  • Knowledge of statistical and causal inference
  • PhD in a related field of above-average quality or equivalent research experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively, solve problems independently, and take personal responsibility for task completion
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with analyzing travel behavior data or urban mobility patterns
  • Proficiency in German (at least B2 level)
  • Experience in data collection, such as through questionnaires or measurements
  • Experience in developing networks with stakeholders and drafting policy recommendations
