We invite you to apply for an interdisciplinary coordination position focused on climate adaptation to extreme events, under the supervision of Prof. Sonia I. Seneviratne and Prof. David Bresch at ETH Zurich. This position will be a vital part of the NCCR CLIM+ programme (www.nccr-climplus.ch) and the NCCR CLIM+ Management Center.
NCCR CLIM+ is dedicated to supporting Switzerland's transformation into a climate-resilient society. Together with stakeholders, our interdisciplinary research community tackles unexplored solutions to the climate crisis and develops a blueprint for actionable climate research worldwide. We prioritize effective communication, knowledge sharing, and the training of a new generation of experts equipped with transdisciplinary knowledge.
In the NCCR CLIM+ programme, we utilize storylines to foster inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration aimed at developing adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate extremes. While each storyline addresses a specific type of extreme event, it is essential to facilitate the exchange of inter- and transdisciplinary learnings across these storylines.
We are seeking a researcher to support the coordination and integration of several storylines, including:
In this role, you will leverage your expertise in natural science and inter-/transdisciplinary research to collaborate with a diverse team of natural scientists, social scientists, and transdisciplinary researchers. You will also assist in selecting appropriate methods for scientific and transdisciplinary integration.
As part of the NCCR CLIM+ programme, you will engage in extensive exchanges and training in inter- and transdisciplinary research, with opportunities to publish results in scientific journals and present at national and international conferences.
The initial phase of this position is planned for a duration of 3.5 years, commencing on November 1, 2026, or sooner by agreement. The contract will be issued for one year at a time, with the possibility of renewal. The salary will adhere to ETH Zurich regulations, and part-time employment (e.g., 80%) can be considered for candidates with caregiving responsibilities or other projects.
You should hold a PhD in climate science, environmental sciences, meteorology, or a closely related field. Experience in inter- or transdisciplinary research is essential, and enthusiasm for both is highly encouraged. You will be motivated to co-develop tools and platforms for knowledge exchange. Experience with climate modeling, climate impact analysis, and understanding of financial and health implications of climate change and global climate tipping points will be advantageous.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong verbal and written communication skills in English, and proficiency in one of the Swiss national languages is desired. This position is open to junior or senior postdoctoral candidates and is aimed at those aspiring to build a career at the intersection of climate science, policy, and society, with responsibilities in coordination.
