This position is within the research group -Spatial Development and Urban Policy SPUR- led by Prof. Dr. David Kaufmann, focusing on sustainable, democratic, and just urban development. We are an interdisciplinary team at the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Development, integrating perspectives from spatial planning, urban studies, social sciences, and data science.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to conduct, lead, and acquire applied research projects centered on quantitative socio-spatial analysis. The primary responsibilities include developing and implementing methods, tools, and platforms for analyzing, monitoring, and visualizing socio-spatial phenomena such as segregation, gentrification, displacement, housing affordability, and poverty, with a particular focus on Switzerland. This involves collecting, analyzing, and visualizing spatial registry data for various applications including research, teaching, and public communication. The researcher will also carry out socio-spatial monitoring across Switzerland and collaborate on applied research projects with public authorities.
The position requires collaboration across disciplines and the integration of quantitative spatial analysis into diverse research projects. The researcher will be responsible for developing a website to present socio-spatial outcomes, indices, and maps, facilitating public engagement, and providing open access to downloadable data. Furthermore, the researcher is expected to engage with public authorities, research institutions, NGOs, and the broader public to further enhance the applied research portfolio of the SPUR research group, aiming to establish a sub-unit dedicated to applied socio-spatial analysis.
