The Planetary Geochemistry group, led by Prof. Maria Schönbächler, investigates the pathways that led to the formation and evolution of planets within our Solar System. This group is part of the Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, ETH Zurich.

We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, and team-oriented postdoctoral researcher with a robust background in laboratory-based analysis of terrestrial and/or extraterrestrial samples.

Job Description

The successful candidate should possess a solid academic background and a noteworthy publication record, as well as experience in high-precision isotope analyses of geological samples. The role will involve teamwork, including collaboration with PhD students and fellow postdoctoral researchers. A spirit of collaboration is essential while maintaining research independence. Your tasks will include:

  • Conducting and publishing high-quality research in Earth and Planetary Sciences, aligned with the scientific profile of the Planetary Geochemistry group.
  • Developing and pursuing innovative research directions with potential for competitive third-party funding.
  • Contributing to teaching and supervision at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral levels.
  • Supporting the isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry team in research, teaching, laboratory activities, and daily scientific operations wherever possible.

Profile

  • PhD in Geochemistry, Cosmochemistry, Earth or Planetary Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
  • Research experience in analytical geo- or cosmochemistry.
  • Experience with high precision isotope analyses of geological samples and clean laboratory environments.
  • Highly self-motivated, independent, and able to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience in supervising Bachelor, Master, or doctoral students is advantageous.
