The Development Economics Group (ETH-DEC) at ETH Zurich is offering a PostDoc position in Development Economics, comprising 60% own research and 40% research management. This role involves managing, supporting, and contributing to the ongoing research projects of our group.
The starting date is September 1, 2025. The position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.
We conduct research in empirical development economics, focusing on various themes such as global inequalities, financing for development, health and population economics, technologies for poverty reduction, sustainable resource extraction, and evidence-informed policymaking. We are an international ensemble of dedicated economists and data scientists passionate about analyzing global inequalities and contributing to solutions for global development. Our group has strong ties with NADEL, a multidisciplinary team dedicated to training future decision-makers in global cooperation and development, as well as ETH4D, which connects researchers with civil society, NGOs, governments, and industry to develop and scale innovations for the global population.

The successful candidate will conduct high-quality research closely aligned with our group's focus. Additionally, they will mentor 1-2 PhD students and assist in ongoing and future research projects, including data analysis, writing, management, proposal writing, and communication. The candidate will collaborate closely with Prof. Isabel Günther. Teaching opportunities are available but not mandatory.
Candidates should possess a doctorate in economics, demonstrate excellent prospects for publications, and exhibit strong quantitative and statistical software skills. Experience working on issues related to poverty, inequality, or development in European or African countries during their PhD is essential. Interest in our research fields is crucial. While experience with randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and primary data collection is beneficial, it is not required. Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French or German is a plus but not necessary.
