The wide bandgap of nitrides enables a diverse array of high-power and high-frequency applications, ranging from 5G telecommunications to advanced optoelectronic and quantum devices. The primary objective of this project is to investigate the fundamentals of the electronic structure of nitride systems, encompassing their band structure, Fermi surface, electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions, and interfacial band offsets, utilizing soft X-ray angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). These insights will facilitate further advancements in the efficacy and functionality of nitride-based devices.
Experiments will be conducted at the Advanced Resonant Spectroscopies (ADRESS) beamline of the Swiss Light Source, a world-leading soft X-ray ARPES facility focusing on interface and heterostructure systems, as well as at various synchrotron facilities globally. You will also engage in time-resolved ARPES research at the European XFEL. Your responsibilities will include computational modeling of the electronic structure of nitride systems. You will be an integral part of a vibrant scientific community at PSI, exploring solid-state systems through an array of complementary techniques including ultraviolet ARPES, muon spectroscopy, X-ray scattering, and neutron scattering. This project provides extensive collaboration opportunities, both within PSI and with external users of PSI's research facilities, alongside close interactions with theoretical groups during data analysis and interpretation.
Our institution fosters interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic on-the-job training, as well as personal development opportunities and our strong vocational training culture. If you seek to balance work with family life or other personal interests, we are equipped to support you with modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure.
Your employment contract will initially be for 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension.
