In close collaboration with a team of experts at PSI and the University of Zurich, the postdoctoral candidate, alongside a PhD candidate, will work towards significantly enhancing the high-pressure capabilities of -SR at PSI. This will involve enabling measurements on dramatically smaller samples at considerably higher pressures using diamond anvil cells and advanced uniaxial stress apparatus.
The postdoc will play a crucial role in developing novel hydrostatic and uniaxial pressure cells, along with associated experimental methodologies, aiming to increase the accessible pressure range by at least a factor of three beyond current world records at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). These advancements will open previously inaccessible regimes of quantum matter and facilitate the investigation of emergent phenomena under extreme conditions.
Working within a collaborative team of principal investigators, postdocs, and PhD students, the candidate will explore unconventional quantum phenomena such as superconductivity, charge order, and magnetism across various quantum materials. The goal is to identify common features in their phase diagrams and elucidate the underlying mechanisms, all within a highly international and interdisciplinary environment at PSI, where you will gain expertise in cutting-edge experimental techniques, high-pressure instrumentation, and fundamental topics in condensed matter physics.
Our institution is built on interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic on-the-job training, personal development opportunities, and a strong vocational training culture. We also provide support for those seeking to balance work and family life or other personal interests, through our modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure.
The employment contract will initially be limited to two years.
