The Development Economics Group (ETH-DEC) at ETH Zurich is offering a PostDoc position in Development Economics: 60% dedicated to own research and 40% to research management. This includes managing, supporting, and contributing to ongoing research projects within the group.

The position is set to start on September 1, 2025, initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.

Our Research Group

We conduct research in empirical development economics, covering ongoing projects related to global inequalities, financing for development, health and population economics, technologies for poverty reduction, sustainable resource extraction, and evidence-informed policymaking. Our Team

We are an international team of dedicated economists and data scientists committed to analyzing global inequalities and contributing to solutions for global development. Our research group collaborates closely with NADEL, a multidisciplinary team focused on educating future decision-makers for global cooperation and development, as well as ETH4D, which connects researchers with civil society, NGOs, governments, and industry to develop and scale innovations for the global population.

Job Description

The successful candidate will conduct high-quality research aligned with the group's focus. Additionally, the candidate will mentor 1-2 PhD students and support ongoing and future research projects, including data analysis, writing, management, proposal writing, and communication. Close collaboration with Prof. Isabel Günther is expected. Teaching is encouraged but not mandatory.

Profile

  • Doctorate in economics
  • Strong publication prospects
  • Extensive quantitative and statistical software skills
  • Experience addressing issues related to poverty, inequality, or development in European or African countries during PhD studies
  • Interest in the research areas of our group
  • Experience with RCTs and primary data collection is a plus, but not required
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in French or German is an advantage
