About Nutreco Exploration (NutEx)

In 2021, Nutreco established the Nutreco Exploration (NutEx) group, which develops novel and proprietary ultra-specialty ingredients, empowering the development of innovative functional feeds. NutEx engages in two key programs: phytotechnology and microtechnology to uncover new ideas and transform them into exclusive ingredients.

Phytotechnology Program

To support the phytotechnology program, Nutreco founded the Competence Center for Medicinal Plant Solutions, known as the Nutreco Garden of the Future (NuGaFu). Located in Switzerland’s phytovalley, near the borders of Austria and Germany, the Center boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities necessary for developing PhytoComplexes used in the feed industry. These include:

  • Bioactivity modeling facilities
  • Phytochemistry laboratory
  • In vitro propagation laboratory
  • Plant breeding greenhouse
  • Medicinal plant exhibition garden
  • Experimental field station for plant domestication work

The Center also leverages a worldwide network of specialty plant growers.

Position Overview: Plant Production and Supply Manager for Medicinal Plants in Animal Nutrition

We are seeking a dedicated Plant Production and Supply Manager to join our NutEx team. In this role, you will support all aspects related to the global commercial scale production and supply of our PhytoComplexes.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Discovery Group to assess plant material availability, cultivation prospects, and expected production costs.
  • Align with the Plant Domestication Group to ensure a smooth establishment of selected plant materials and implement production guidelines.
  • Interact with the Upstream Group to facilitate timely supply of plant materials in required volumes.
  • Oversee production quality and costs to ensure compliance with specifications and maintain agreed cost frames.
  • Establish plant collection, cultivation, and processing procedures utilizing in-house expertise.
  • Manage commercial in vivo and in vitro propagation of selected proprietary plants.
  • Extend plant production worldwide while ensuring compliance with safety, traceability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in production, focusing on quality enhancement and cost reduction.
  • Support and supervise contract growers, particularly during initial phases of field establishment, harvesting, and processing.
  • Collaborate with the NutEx Ingredient Development Group and support Nutreco’s Regulatory, Quality Assurance, and Procurement teams.
  • Provide training for staff of Nutreco OpCos and their business partners.

On-site presence is mandatory for close collaboration with other teams, training, and the transfer of our grower and service provider networks.

Qualifications

  • PhD or master’s degree in Agronomy or Horticulture with several years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in specialty crop production and processing.
  • Hands-on experience with upscaling and geographic diversification of plant production, as well as sustainability.
  • Extensive supply chain experience, including transportation, customs, and warehousing.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in German is a plus.
  • High level of initiative, reliability, and flexibility in handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to visit growers and production fields.
  • This role is based in Arbon, Switzerland; local labor conditions apply.
