Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to individuals in need, regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation, particularly those affected by natural or man-made disasters and armed conflicts.

Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Geneva, MSF Switzerland's Philanthropy Unit consists of 17 dedicated professionals who raise approximately CHF 60 million annually from our generous donors. To ensure comprehensive coverage of the Swiss fundraising market, the unit operates from both Geneva and Zurich. Our mission is to strengthen MSF’s relationships with private major supporters, including affluent individuals, companies, foundations, and other philanthropic organizations.

As a Philanthropy Advisor, you will be part of a global community of fundraising and philanthropy specialists, working collaboratively to provide quality medical aid to millions affected by crises. You will manage relationships with major donors, aiming to uphold and increase their support for MSF’s mission.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of Major Donors to enhance their engagement and support.
  • Qualify Major Donors and prospects in collaboration with the Prospect Researcher.
  • Facilitate meaningful interactions, including meetings and events, with major donors and their representatives.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with new potential major donors.
  • Collaborate with MSF's key spokespersons and field staff to connect donors with our life-saving mission.
  • Organize visits to MSF offices and projects, ensuring compliance with MSF criteria.
  • Maintain accurate records in the Customer Relationship Database.
  • Coordinate with Writing Officers to create engaging materials for major donors.
  • Leverage marketing appeals in collaboration with the Direct Marketing team.
  • Present MSF’s case for support and personalize solicitation strategies for major donors.

Your Profile

Education

  • Tertiary degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, Law, International Relations, or a related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in related fields such as public relations, wealth management, or humanitarian project work.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian aid is also advantageous.

Languages

  • (Swiss) German (native or equivalent)
  • English
  • French & Italian: a plus

Skills and Technical Competencies

  • Strong writing and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in database use is advantageous.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position (40 hours/week).
  • Open-ended contract.
  • Location: Zurich, Switzerland.
  • Ideal start date: February 16th, 2026.
  • Gross annual salary: CHF 87,372 - CHF 100,608, based on experience.
  • Paid vacation: 25 days per year, plus public holidays.
  • Pension plan: covered 3/4 by MSF and 1/4 by the staff member.
  • Relocation package if moving from another country.
