Context & Mission

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization providing care to individuals affected by natural disasters and armed conflict, regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation (MSF Charter). Founded in Switzerland in 1981, we are headquartered in Geneva.

The Philanthropy Unit, part of our Communications and Fundraising Department, is dedicated to strengthening MSF's relationships with major private supporters, including individuals, foundations, and corporations. Our mission involves managing partnerships with loyal corporate foundation partners to secure and grow income for MSF.

The Philanthropy Advisor plays a vital role within the Philanthropy Unit, focused on retaining key partners and expanding the movement-wide partnership and income growth. This role encompasses managing all aspects of key partnerships alongside the Team Coordinator and other team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partnership Management:
    • Contribute to the overall strategy and annual action plan for key partnerships.
    • Manage engagement with partner stakeholders (business, employees, etc.).
    • Ensure alignment on external communication and facilitate engagement between stakeholders and MSF sections.
    • Meet all contractual obligations and manage internal information coherence.
    • Serve as backup for the Head of Unit in managing grants and donations.
  • Donor Management:
    • Manage a pool of donors in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and support partnership development.
    • Contribute to the annual action plan for foundations and corporates in Switzerland.
    • Regularly analyze the donor pool for optimal relationship management.
    • Develop and implement tailored action plans for renewals and acquisitions of contributions.
  • Cultivation and Stewardship:
    • Deliver exceptional experiences to MSF key partners to enhance engagement.
    • Ensure donor identities align with MSF’s Gifts Acceptance Policy.
    • Organize meaningful interactions and visits to MSF headquarters for key partners.
    • Ensure timely submissions of reports to partner foundations and corporates.
  • Solicitation and Acquisition:
    • Craft and present MSF’s case for support to foundations and corporates.
    • Identify priority projects and develop donor-centric proposals.
    • Engage with high-potential foundations and corporates to secure partnerships.

Your Profile

  • Education:
    • University degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, International Relations, or related fields.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years in a similar role.
    • Experience with MSF is required.
    • Experience in managing corporate foundation partnerships is a strong asset.
  • Languages:
    • Fluent in German and English; proficiency in French and Italian is an asset.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional writing and relationship management skills.
    • Proven acquisition and networking abilities.
    • Strong client orientation and organizational skills.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and persuasive skills.
    • Dynamic, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position (100%, 40 hours per week).
  • Open-ended contract.
  • Location: Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Ideal start date: June 2nd, 2025.
  • Gross annual salary starting from CHF 87,372 (commensurate with experience).
  • Paid vacation: 25 days per year plus Swiss public holidays.
  • Pension plan contributions: 3/4 covered by MSF, 1/4 by the employee.
  • Relocation package available for candidates moving from abroad.
