Dysregulation of Lipid Metabolism and Its Impact

Dysregulation of lipid metabolism plays a key role in the development and progression of metabolic disorders, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Our group's overarching goal is to understand lipid metabolism in humans and to develop novel approaches for in-depth metabolic phenotyping.

What You Can Expect

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our multidisciplinary research team. This position involves investigating the underlying mechanisms associated with the dysregulation of lipid metabolism in MASLD. The project aims to elucidate the mechanistic role of lipid signaling molecules in driving hepatic inflammation and fibrosis while identifying novel therapeutic interventions.

This research will provide multi-disciplinary training, requiring a combination of complementary approaches, including:

  • Molecular Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Computational Biology

Your Profile

Applicants should hold a master's degree or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, systems biology, or analytical chemistry with a strong interest in metabolism. Experience working with mass spectrometry is essential, and familiarity with liver studies is advantageous. Candidates should be highly organized, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Good interpersonal and communication skills, along with fluency in both spoken and written English, are required.

What We Offer

We provide a supportive and state-of-the-art research environment that fosters scientific and professional development. The successful candidate will engage in a multi-disciplinary research project, working with both pre-clinical models and clinical studies. This position is fully funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and is available from September 2025 (or upon agreement).
