Position Overview

We are seeking a highly accomplished individual with a Master of Science in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Climate Sciences, Earth Sciences, or Quaternary Sciences, specializing in sedimentary palaeo sciences and/or vegetation ecology. This role entails intensive microscopic and laboratory analyses, including the examination of pollen, macrofossils, and ancient DNA. Additionally, the position involves 2-3 months of fieldwork in Mediterranean environments for core and data collection.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in a relevant field.
  • Experience in labor-intensive microscopic and laboratory analyses.
  • Fieldwork experience in Mediterranean environments (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Greek and/or Italian language is an advantage.

Enrollment and Degree

The selected PhD candidate will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Climate Sciences, with the PhD awarded by the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Bern.

Position Details

The position is set to commence on January 1, 2026. The salary will align with Swiss standards for doctoral students, with a gross yearly salary ranging from 47,000 to 55,000 CHF, depending on the duration of employment. The maximum duration for this role is four years.
