Your Responsibilities

The PhD student will conduct a series of experiments utilizing microbial predator-prey communities in controlled laboratory settings with a 3D tracking system. This advanced system enables high-resolution, high-throughput measurements of both individual behavior and functional responses. The data collected will help test hypotheses explaining variations in functional response shapes and will contribute to parameterizing a model that connects functional responses with underlying movement behavior, in collaboration with partners at the University of Amsterdam. The role includes regular visits and exchanges between UZH and the University of Amsterdam.

Your Profile

• Master's Level Degree in Ecology or a closely related subject.
• Knowledge of ecological concepts and theory, particularly those relevant to movement ecology, community stability, species interactions, and food webs.
• Experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing ecological experiments.
• Proficiency in scientific writing.
• Strong project management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Previous laboratory experience with microbial systems and an interest in quantitative approaches (statistical and mathematical modeling, programming) and method development (3D tracking) is a plus.
