The Swiss NSF funded National Centre of Competence (NCCR) CLIM+ is dedicated to supporting Switzerland in its transformation toward a climate-resilient society. As part of work package 3 (Governance of climate extremes and justice), the Public Management and Organization (PMO) team at the University of Bern’s KPM Center for Public Management has been tasked with exploring “The role of networked, inter-organizational governance arrangements for climate extremes” (task 3.4). We are offering a 4-year PhD position, which can start as soon as possible or by mutual agreement.
Responsibilities
- Your doctoral work will focus on the content and context of task 3.4 of the NCCR.
- You will conduct a thorough literature review on network governance concerning climate adaptation and climate extremes and will conceptualize, collect, and analyze qualitative data at relevant research sites.
- Collaboration with our PMO team, the work package 3 task force, and the broader NCCR Clim+ community will be essential.
- You will contribute to joint conference submissions, research publications, and support task coordination, including reports, organization of workshops, and annual meetings with NCCR Clim+ partners and collaborating organizations.
Requirements
- You hold a master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as organization/management studies, public management/administration, sociology, or political science.
- You possess a solid command of and demonstrated interest in qualitative empirical research methods.
- You are motivated to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including federal, cantonal, and municipal governments and administrations, as well as stakeholders relevant to climate adaptation in other sectors.
- You can work independently, meet demanding deadlines, and cooperate effectively with diverse project members.
- You possess excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
- German as a mother tongue (or an equivalent level) and very good English skills are prerequisites. A command of Swiss German and French is a plus.
