Project Details and Responsibilities

Humour is a universal and intricate phenomenon that significantly influences social communication and adaptation. However, do we all process humour in the same way? Previous research suggests that individuals on the autistic spectrum (AS) may experience humour differently from neurotypicals, but existing evidence remains inconclusive. This project seeks to explore how AS adolescents process humour and assess whether a humour-based training programme can enhance their well-being. This initiative will adopt the neurodiversity paradigm, providing an alternative perspective to the traditional deficit view of autism.

This PhD position is part of the SNSF Starting grant titled "Humour in Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum: A Window into Cognition and a Tool for Well-being," awarded to Prof. Dr. Mirella Manfredi. The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Recruitment of participants
  • Data collection
  • Data analysis
  • Presentation of research results at international scientific meetings
  • Publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Supervision of master’s theses
  • Assistance in organizing workshops
