Through our groundbreaking research and development, we strive to discover transformative treatments and devise new strategies for widespread access. Our mission is fueled by the belief that the most powerful insights emerge when curious, courageous, and collaborative individuals are encouraged to explore new questions, make bold decisions, and take calculated risks.

Within Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) in Basel, we seek a highly motivated and independent scientist with extensive expertise in parallel purification and automation. As part of our expert team, you will bring your passion for designing and implementing integrated workflows to enhance the purification of novel and emerging modalities. Your leadership will play a critical role in the success of projects, contributing directly to the discovery of new medicines.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee innovative solutions and workflows to advance parallel purification and analytics platforms for diverse chemical modalities, including peptides, oligonucleotides, and low molecular weight (LMW) compounds.
  • Implement and maintain robust, scalable, high-throughput purification platforms suitable for peptides and other modalities, ensuring efficiency at various scales.
  • Refine and optimize existing library purification workflows, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams and external partners to adapt processes to meet evolving needs.
  • Work closely with cross-site and cross-functional partner groups to support harmonized digital workflows, hardware setups, and data integration, promoting data standardization and enhanced capabilities for active learning.
  • Lead and mentor a team of experienced scientists, fostering an environment of professional growth and scientific excellence, while empowering team members to achieve impactful results.
  • Anticipate future trends in automation solutions, working alongside chemists and project teams to drive innovative strategies in alignment with GDC's priorities.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, sharing your knowledge, introducing new techniques, and contributing to the group's strategic vision.
  • Engage actively with global scientific communities, participating in presentations, publications, and professional networking.

What You Will Bring to the Role

  • A PhD or Master's degree in Science or Engineering, with at least 5 years of post-degree experience in automation and purification, ideally in a drug discovery context.
  • Current expertise in implementing automation solutions, including digital workflows and troubleshooting hardware systems.
  • Proven experience in peptide purification; familiarity with oligonucleotides and low molecular weight compounds is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for managing workflows, data tracking, and analytical reporting in high-throughput environments.
  • Track record of coaching and mentoring scientists, as well as establishing successful collaborations across sites and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently initiate and drive projects to completion, coupled with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, adept at building consensus within a matrixed organization.
  • Strong connections within the parallel purification and automation community are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
